Voices That Speak Beauty Without Making A Sound

This is a beautiful time of year here in Canada with leaves changing colour.  Although it’s not quite as glorious here on the West Coast as it is in places like where I grew up in Muskoka in Ontario, there’s still so much to see that can take our breath away because it’s so lovely.

The Bible tells us that all around us in nature, and particularly the skies, speak to us about God.  When’s the last time we paused, took a look at the sky, and asked God what we had to learn from what we see?

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.

Psalm 19:1-4

I’m not going to list all the facts about the immense beauty and complexity of our solar system and other galaxies.  But what I can say is that by simply looking up into the heavens we can know that there is a God and can perceive His eternal power.

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Romans 1:20

It is so good to pause and remind ourselves that there is a God – and we’re not it!!  God is in control.  As amazing as our world and the endless worlds beyond are, the God who created them is bigger and more amazing. 

The God who holds all things in balance is the God who is interested in the details of what is going on in us and around us today.  Let’s pause and reflect on that greatness and be strengthened by it.

Loving God, your creative power that made the world is the first amazing bit but also that You have sustained it all, with all the tiny balance points that are necessary for things to not spin out of control – how wonderful for us to know that we are not left on our own to try to manage it all.

In our personal lives today we want to remember that You are here with us.  We may not hear Your audible voice but You speak to us in Your Word and You speak to us in ways our heart can respond. 

Help us to know You today, to rely on You, to be informed and supported by looking around and taking in the many ways that You speak to us, like in nature, and let the truth of it all stabilize us and give us strength for today and hope going forward.
