Who Fits Into Whose Agenda?

 WHO FITS INTO WHOSE AGENDA?

In meeting with some folks recently who have a couple of years under their belt – as do I – and we were talking about how it used to be  that people of faith knew that God had an agenda for their lives and how they would fit into His grand plan but how things now seem to have shifted to where many people have plans for their lives and are seeing where God can fit into their plans.

Jesus spoke about who fits where and whose agenda should have priority in our day when He said these words:

I am telling you the truth: a grain of wheat remains no more than a single grain unless it is dropped into the ground and dies. If it does die, then it produces many grains. Those who love their own life will lose it; those who hate their own life in this world will keep it for life eternal. Whoever wants to serve me must follow me, so that my servant will be with me where I am. And my Father will honor anyone who serves me.

John 12:24-26

What I know is this.  More than once in my life when I was asking God for direction, thinking I had the plans and really only need God confirmation, God turned things on their head and I needed to go in a totally different direction.

I can’t say that I was eager to move into the changed plans but I can say that the times that I did, even though I thought I was losing the things I was dreaming about, God was actually directing me in ways that were much more fruitful and I would not for one minute change what God showed me I should do.

We’re new into the fall season.  What plans do you have?  What plans do you think God has for you for today and this season?  Do we dare to take some time – not just 5 minutes but a prayerful asking and watching, even over a few days – to seek God’s heart and for grace and wisdom to enter into what He wants.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we are so focused so often on what we think we know and what we think we ought to do.  We pause once again today to remind ourselves and to tell You that we know that Your ways and Your plans are far far superior to our own.

What is your agenda for us today?  Give us ears to hear and hearts that are ready to receive and respond to what You show us.  Amen

What is God’s agenda and how do we fit into it.  I pray that in these next days that will become much clearer to all of us.
