The Right Place For Trust

Tuesday November 12, 2024

Sometimes the words of the Psalms are as personal and direct as any prayer we can form in our own hearts and minds. The prayers in Psalm 25 are an example.

The words contain prayers of commitment to God; requests for help from enemies; a call out for compassion and guidance and what for me is always a prayer that brings a smile to my lips – the one about God not remembering the sins of my youth but remembering me in His love.

O Lord, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.

Psalm 25:1-3

We know that the best way to navigate well through any day is to ask for guidance from God and then to follow the path we are shown.  Our self-will needs help to do that.  Isn’t it great that we can even ask God for help with that? And so I love these words that cover all those bases.

Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.  Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.

Psalm 25:4-5

And then we have the words that make me smile because both God and I know about the days that included rebellious sins in my youth, to which the next verses speak.  I can only affirm that God has been faithful to these words through many decades since.

Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past.  Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O Lord.

Psalm 25:6-7

Let’s live today as conscious of the Lord’s healing presence with us as we can.  As Step 11 from Alcoholics Anonymous encourages us:  sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him.  Praying only for knowledge of His will and the power to carry it out.

Have a great day.
