What Makes Things Better

Better – we are often looking for things that will make us or life better.  What makes food taste better?  What makes us look better?  What will make our work world better, our relationships, our families? 

Here are three things that will make a significant difference.

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.

Ephesians 1:4

So love, the foundation of all that we are an hope to be and at it’s core is the love God had for us, has for us, and always will carry for us.  When we give our lives into God’s care we get to experience that never ending flow of love that began before we were born and will carry us beyond the grave. 

God loves us.  God has chosen us.  God will cleanse us so we are without fault if we will just ask for it.  What do you and I need to do today to live more consciously in that love so our day is better?

Secondly, light.

Once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!

Ephesians 5:8

It’s never easy to navigate in the darkness.  If we’re inside we at least need a candle and outside the bright light of the moon makes such a difference on a dark night, doesn’t it?

God promises to live in us and be light in us so at any time, in any conditions, we can not only have light, but we can be light – and that means we can help others as well as ourselves as we walk, full of God’s light. 

Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

2 Corinthians 5:17

What’s better than something that is brand spanking new and sparkling clean?  That’s what’s on offer from God today.  However our lives have gotten dirty and stained, damaged and broken, God offers us something brand new.  We give away the old.  We welcome Christ into our brokenness and new life begins that is far better than what was previous.

Heavenly Father, we want a better life today but we don’t want it nearly as much as Your want to give it to us. 

Help us today to make that choice to put our will and our life – all of it, past, present, and future – into Your care so You can make everything in us and around us better.  Fill us with love, with light, and with new life, we pray.  Amen

Well they say that butter makes everything better and I wouldn’t disagree with that but Jesus does an even better job, let me tell you.  Have a great day that just gets better and better.
