Work Hard

Wednesday November 13, 2024

Work has always been part of God’s plan, both for Himself and for the humans He created.  Right from the beginning God worked and then rested on the seventh day from His labours.

God ordered one day every week for rest for His people after they had worked for the other six.

We live in a time where people want to work less and less and get more and more for what they do.  God knows there is a sense of true satisfaction when we give our best effort to something and actually accomplish something good.

Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people. You know that you will receive an inheritance as a reward. You serve the Lord Christ.

Colossians 3:23-24

Not only in our day-to-day jobs but also in our relationship with God we are meant to not just passively sit back but to be actively engaged in getting to know God’s plan and working within it.

Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

God’s Word even tells us that those who don’t work shouldn’t eat.  Clearly God knows that it is good for us to work and to make a good effort as we do.

One area of challenge or that we might say makes work “hard” is when we have to persevere through challenges in ourselves or in the work environment and do it over time and so God has addressed that in His instructions to us as well:

Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward.

2 John 1:8

Heavenly Father, we don’t want to be those who just do what they have to do to get by.  We want to make the best of the talents and opportunities You are giving us in this season of our life.

I pray that today we take time and make an effort to know You by reading Your Word and praying, seeking to know what Your will looks like in the practical parts of our lives.  I pray that we will be a joyful and hardworking example to others of how You mean for us to be involved in our day-to-day work.  Amen

Well, maybe our best witness to God’s goodness today is to use the opportunity before us to work well, being grateful for our job, and giving it our best effort.  Let’s have a great working day.
