Safely At Home

Thursday December 12, 2024

Today we are thinking about protection.  This season of Advent is an opportunity for us to get honest with ourselves and God because this is the season where we remember that God is coming to vulnerable, left out, struggling people, to give them hope and a new way forward.

Years before Jesus was born we have these wonderful words written for us:

When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way.

Psalm 142:3

You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked.

Psalm 12:7

Advent is a time to remember that God has come to be with us.  It’s what the name “Immanuel” means.  God offers Himself as a safe and sure place of rest and security.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”  If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.  Psalm 91:1-2, 9-10

So Lord that’s what we want to do today – come to You for protection and invite You to make Your home in us forever.

We thank You for being strong when we are weak.  We thank you for being a place of refuge when all around us seems crazy and out of control.  We thank You for always being dependable and true to Your word.  We can trust You.

You are all we need.  You give us exactly what will help us have a good day today that is meaningful, purposeful, and joyful – a day of blessing others and being blessed and satisfied ourselves.  Amen

Let’s enjoy the safety and secure refuge God is offering us today.
