Today
Remember the lyrics to the song from a few decades ago, “One day at a time sweet Jesus that’s all I’m asking from you. Just give me the strength to do every day what I have to do. Yesterday’s gone, sweet Jesus, and tomorrow may never be mine. Lord, help me today, show me the way, one day at a time.”
God never meant us to live great chunks of time, particularly during complicated times. God has designed us to live life one day at a time.
From the story of creation where God did some work and then He stopped so the evening and the morning became a day; to the day of rest that God took after six days of work; to the periods of activity in the daylight and then the winding down and sleep in the darkness that is the rhythm of each of our lives.
All it takes is one flight to a different time zone on an airplane or the annual daylight saving/standard time change for us to experience the disruption and it’s effects on our daily living.
God has brought us to this day. He has a good plan for our lives in this time slot. We would do well to consult with God about his ideas for our activities today.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
During moments of confusion and struggle in this day, it’s great to remind ourselves that this is a day that God has given us to rejoice in, and therefore he will give us enough information and help so we can safely move through whatever is challenging us if we will consult him.
Heavenly father, we thank you for this day, a day to rejoice and be glad. Thank you that regardless of what challenges we face or even what difficulties surround us you have promised that you can give us joy, joy that makes us strong.
You said that when we are weak that's the greatest opportunity for you to show your strength. We are weak. Our lives are unmanageable without your presence and your guidance and your power to help us do what's right.
Today, Heavenly Father, we welcome your strength and we welcome your joy. You are the strength of our life. We can and will rely on you today. Amen
So let’s rejoice and be glad in this wonderful day that God has given us as we live it with him.
