Be Creative

Tuesday January 7, 2025

Creativity is a gift from God - well, even more than that - it's one of the ways we reflect God, in whose image we are created.

From the very first words in the Bible we see a God who is creating.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1

All the way through the creation story we see God making things and then declaring that they were good.  Then when it came to human beings, we know that God upped His praise and said they were "very good."  God's creativity in our own lives is clearly described for us:

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Psalm 139:13-14

As God's people got organized as a community and in their worship, God gave special creativity and skill to those who would make worship places and worship leaders be beautiful.

He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers, in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers.

Exodus 35:35

Today it is our turn.  If our world is to be filled with creativity and beauty and wonderful things to see, hear, and experience, we are the ones who will need to make a contribution.  And we can't say that there's not some way we can do that because God clearly tells us:

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.

Romans 12:6

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

1 Peter 4:10

So, can you cook, clean, paint, make music, care for kids, coach a team ... the ways of expressing our creativity and skills are endless.  Our part is to get up and get involved.  Do something good with what we have been given.

So, Loving God, thank You for making us well in Your wonderful image - You the creator.  Thank You for filling us each with creative gifts and talents that can be used to make like better for ourselves and others.  Help us today to use and develop the gifts we have, as follow Your instruction to put our whole selves into that effort. Amen

How will you and I take action on these things today?  Think how much more beautiful our world will be, even today, as we do our bit where we are.
