 GOD’S RECYCLING BUSINESS

Recycling is a way to give new life to things that are used, worn out, or just not wanted any more.

You may have  a chart on your fridge similar to the one that is on mine that lists the items we are required to recycle in our community.

Not only does recycling reduce the garbage in the landfill, but as the recycled items are put through various processes they are re-formed into useful products. Clothing, furniture, dishes, toys … the list really is endless. I even read somewhere that one company makes clothes out of recycled coffee grounds.  Imagine that.

At various times in our lives we may feel as though we’ve used up all that’s valuable, never realizing that God sees more than we do.  God knows how to wash us clean and repurpose all that we bring to life today.  He fills us with His Holy Spirit who transforms the way we think and act, so we become people with a whole new expression of God’s beauty and creativity, useful in ways we never before dreamed.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

2 Corinthians 5:17

God is in the recycling business – creating something new from what some might see as worthless or broken down.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.  But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation

Colossians 1:21-22

Well Heavenly Father, there’s hope even for us, even for this season of our lives.  It’s amazing how You are able to take us, clean us up from all that has damaged us and worn us out, and then remake us, in the power of Your Spirit to be someone beautiful in Your sight and useful in Your service.

No matter how clear or confused we are today about Your plans for what’s upcoming in our lives, we want to surrender ourselves to Your loving and creative hands and let You recycle all that’s of value in us for yet another season.

Well now, I need to tell you that the part of recycling I dislike the most is dealing with what I call my “stink pot” of kitchen scraps.  Too often I can leave things in there until mold starts to grow or the smell hits me when I come through the door.  But, what is such a joy to remember is that in time, that stinking mess will become compost that will help wonderful new things grow in someone’s garden.

So, let’s cooperate with God today in His recycling business.
