Inviting God In

Step 11 from Alcoholics Anonymous invites us to come to God each day with these words: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

We come to God and invite Him into all we are and do because our need for His peace and power is desperate in order for us to not only survive but to thrive in the good plans He’s prepared for us.  And so we echo these words when we pray:

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1

In the Psalms we are given all sorts of blessings that we can pray, knowing that God will do exactly as we ask of Him.  Let’s invite God’s help with these words:

Establish my steps in your word. Psalm 119:133

Let your compassion quickly meet our needs because we are on the brink of despair. Psalm 79:8

Protect me God because I take refuge in You. I say to the Lord, You are my Lord, apart from You I have nothing good. Psalm 16:1

And so God, please write these words and the truths they represent on our hearts.  Your love is deeper than we will ever fully understand, help us in faith to live in Your loving protection today.

Give us discernment to hear Your voice and Your voice alone. Speak to us in the way You know we will hear you best. Lord In your goodness keep us, we pray, from all things that may hurt us, and help us to give ourselves to those things which belong to your purposes.

And we will end today with this wonderful prayer:

May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17

Let’s continue to invite God into all we think, say and do as we move through this day.  Have a wonderful day in God’s presence
