What does responsible living look like for me today?

For most of us, our understanding of responsible living only takes into account human relationships and institutions.  Therefore, we live each day in reaction to shifting conditions. This brings an unsteadiness to our souls that is at times confusing and fearful, and at other times seeming to require superhuman efforts of energy and control.  God never intended us to figure out life on our own and be responsible for it on our own.  His plan, from the foundation of time, was that his unlimited wisdom would be the guide for our finite lives.  As we obediently surrender our beliefs and actions to His plan, we come know fullness of life.

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. (Psalm 32:8 NLT)  Jesus said:  “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. (John 10:10 NLT)

To be responsible human beings, our first exercise is to seek God's will in all we do, and then DO IT.  Our focus will be to love God with our actions and attitudes and then to love others as He would love them.  We will be able to do that freely because we will experience the security of having received freely from Him.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33 NLT)  We need to seek our direction and our affirmation from God, not from the approval or opinions of those around us.
