Friday January 11, 2013

As we enter this new year, we can do so with confident hope.  There is a better life than what we have previously seen or experienced.  Jesus said:  “I have come that they may have life and that they may have it to the full.” (John 10:10 NIV)

It is God’s desire that we be rescued from the disaster and chaos of life where we find ourselves, that we enter into the wonderful experience of our life as God created and planned for us.  The unique person we are is someone God chose to create.  God knows our whole person.  For every area of our life, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social, God makes this promise:  “I will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”  (2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT)

If I want to end the cycle of addiction and enter into a new way of freedom and hope, I need to rebuild my system of beliefs, based on the promises of God.  I need to pay attention to information that supports and strengthens me.  I need to believe these things are real no matter what I feel.  I need to enter into a life of dependence and trust in the loving God who created me and breathes life into me today because He has a good plan for me.  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV)

Do I want addiction in one form or another or do I want life in every area of my being?  Do I want to be a whole person?

Pick a promise from God.  Several are listed below.  Learn the promise.  Tell it to yourself over and over again.  Speak it to circumstances around you that are troubled.  Encourage your heart with the truth.  Command your mind to receive these truths and to surrender to these truths.  Your feelings will soon change as you build your spiritual strength with these promises.

PROMISES OF GOD

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:29-31

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39

But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm. Proverbs 1:33

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
