Help In Coming Clean

What does it actually mean to turn our will and our life over to the care of God? What kind of care can we actually expect to receive from God?  This is what God says He will do, do we believe Him?

I’ll pour pure water over you and scrub you clean. I’ll give you a new heart, put a new spirit in you. I’ll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that’s God-willed, not self-willed. I’ll put my Spirit in you and make it possible for you to do what I tell you and live by my commands.” (Ezekiel 36:25-27 MSG)

Our experience of just how powerless we are against the destructive evils in our life has left us feeling hopeless.  There’s no time when we are more aware of that feeling of hopelessness than in the early days of recovery.  We are learning to deal with some behaviour issues that are on the surface but there are layers of “stuff” just below the surface that we are scared stiff to uncover.  There are parts of our being that are dirtied by events that we have been involved in either voluntarily or by force.  God is able to heal those ugly memories and restore us to a life that is meaningful and purposeful.

The really good news of Step 3 is that God brings us to this moment of wanting new life and also provides whatever is needed to help us achieve it.

“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool”. (Isaiah 1:18 NLT)

It’s time to sit down with God and talk with Him about where we’re at and let Him show us what we need in order to have a clean heart and a new start.  Step One showed us we couldn’t do it on our own.  Step Two reminded us that God is there for us.  Now, in Step Three, it’s time to talk.
