Monday, April 15, 2013 -- Entirely Ready For Change (1)

We can solve personal problems only by becoming willing to change something about ourselves.  That “something” is the one who is in charge of the change process in our lives.  That “something” is the person who gets to decide what is best for us, what is best for our relationships, what is best for our well-being for today and for the long haul.  We come to the point in our life where we turn over all the decision making parts of the change process of our life to God.  What God says needs changing gets worked on until it changes.  What God says needs removing gets removed.  When God says to bear with something patiently, we hang in and bear with.

12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. (Colossians 3:12-15 NLT)

To become entirely ready to have God remove all defects of character is a decision of the heart and will in surrender to a good and loving God.  It’s a point in time where we actually give up control of how the healing process works in our hearts and minds. It's the about turn from self-control to allowing God to reveal what's going on in us, and what is necessary to sort ourselves out. It's the time where we sincerely and wholeheartedly allow God to plant something new in us.

We allow our thoughts and behaviours to be shaped by new beliefs.  We trust the Holy Spirit to empower us to do the work that helps us become more and more like Jesus.  We surrender over and over again to God’s invitation to life.  We continually ask the question, “God, what do I need to change so Your kingdom comes, and your will is done here in my life on earth as it is in heaven?”

This is how real problems begin to be solved and lasting change takes place in us.
