Thursday, July 18, 2013 -- Going To The Highest Authority

In recent weeks we have heard of several decisions from the Supreme Courts of both Canada and the United States which will have an impact on the way life is shaped in each country.  When we want something done, we also need to go to the person who has authority and power to impact our way of life.

We live in a world that is visible but all around us is an unseen world.  Jesus left heaven (unseen to us at this time) to come to earth to demonstrate to us who this top authority is and how we should respond to events in this life.  Jesus is God.  Jesus is pure and holy.  Jesus is love.  Jesus took on human flesh, lived among humans, faced trouble and temptation as He kept in view both the visible and the invisible worlds.  Jesus gave Himself completely to following the purposes of the invisible God in our visible world.

One day as Jesus travelled He came into contact with a man controlled by demons.  This man’s life was a mess but even in that unstable state, truth was revealed:  Jesus and his disciples sailed to the area of the Gerasenes across the lake from Galilee.  When Jesus stepped on shore, he was met by the man controlled by demons.  For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, he lived in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet. He shouted at the top of his voice, “Jesus, Son of the Most High God, what do you want with me?  (Luke 8:26-28 NIRV)

Jesus is the Son of the Most High God.  Jesus lived the perfect life with the seen and unseen worlds in proper balance.  How did He do that?

Jesus answered, “What I’m about to tell you is true. The Son can do nothing by himself. He can do only what he sees his Father doing. What the Father does, the Son also does. This is because the Father loves the Son. He shows him everything he does.  I can do nothing by myself. I judge only as I hear. And my judging is fair. I do not try to please myself. I try only to please the One who sent me.(John 5:19-20, 30 NIRV)

Jesus gave Himself to do His Father's will all the way to the cross.  As a man born into human flesh He honored the relationship of love and trust with His Father.  In the beginning, God created us to have this type of relationship with Him.  God wants us to know that while He gave us free will, we were created to successfully navigate this life in relationship with Him, the Most High God.  He's the top authority who will clear the way for us to live a fully satisfying life.  Are we living for His purposes?  On a daily basis, are we following the commands of love and service that He has prepared for us?
