Thursday August 15, 2013

Some of us carry the darkness of regret for promises that have been broken, both promises made to us, and promises made by us. Many in our world, including us and some of our loved ones, deal with the shadows of addiction, poverty and loneliness. At times life is confusing and seems unmanageable and we are faced with our own powerlessness to change. We may feel that no one understands or cares. God, in His great love for us, gave Jesus to be light in our darkness.

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. (Isaiah 9:2 NLT)
We are people on whom the light is shining no matter how deep our darkness has been. Through His humanity, Jesus entered into our experiences and our pain. He is able to sympathize with our weaknesses. Jesus is pouring out His Spirit into our lives daily. Because we are children of God, we can experience His comfort and strength. As our lives are healed and restored we can then comfort and strengthen others with the same comfort and strength we have received.

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. (John 3:16-17 MSG)
