Wednesday, September 4, 2013 -- God's Beautiful World Includes Me

Wednesday September 4, 2013

We have a beautiful world around us.   Year after year Vancouver is voted one of the nicest places in the world to live.

On one of the hot days of summer in Vancouver this year I went swimming in Stanley Park’s 3rd Beach and looked around at the water, the trees, the mountains on the North Shore, and even an eagle that circled around and around in the sky.  It’s just amazing how beautiful all of God’s creation really is.  We get to see it and enjoy it every day.

One of the things I love about nature is that it reminds us of God as we look and appreciate the beauty around us.  The Bible says:

e know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to us. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, we can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature.  (From Romans 1:19-20 NLT)

So, I look at the mountains and God’s word tells me that God, who made the mountains, loves to help me.  I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
(Psalm 121:1-2 NLT )

I look at the ocean and I remember God said that when he forgives me he buries my sin at the bottom of the ocean.  You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:19 NKJV)

I see the eagle and God’s word says that with His power in me I will soar like the eagles. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  They will soar high on wings like eagles.  (Isaiah 40:31)

I look at the flowers and God says they are to remind me that He cares for me, especially when I feel fragile.  “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.  And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. (Matthew 6:28-30 NLT)

Everything in creation is showing us how good and kind God is.  Let’s look around as we go about our day and ask ourselves:  How is God showing His goodness to me in this?
