Tissues And Tears (2)

Friday October 25, 2013

Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy.  They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest. (Psalm 126:5-6 NLT)

I mentioned yesterday that my mother has tissue everywhere.  Maybe by the time I'm 91 like my mother, I'll do the same.  It seems a common experience to women who are moving along in years.

As many of us do, Mother used tissue when she was sick and would wipe our noses when we were sick.  When times were tough and tears flowed, a tissue was something handy to have nearby.  In many support group meetings I attend, as people share their hearts, that tissue is welcome as hearts are unburdened either with grief or with gratitude.

While Mother used tissues for tears during her own hard times, I know she also cried and used tissues when she thought about her children and their hard times.  She cried because she knew we needed to know the loving God she knew.  She cried as she prayed passionately and asked God to help us and save us from the troubles we got ourselves into.  She cried because she loved us.  She cried because she knew God loved us.  She cried because she cared deeply, just like Jesus cried when he looked at the city and all the people who suffered there.

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he [Jesus] wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.  (Luke 19:41-42 )

If you know Jesus, he’s asking you to care today.  Who do you see today?  Who will you care about?  Who will you pray for?

God’s promise is that if we care and pray, even with tears because we care that much, things will happen in the lives of those we pray for.  I know.  I was one of the “bad ones” my mother prayed for and now I have a new life with God.  God cares about the people you care about.  Only God can work in them so they can change.  My mother couldn’t change me but she could pray for me and she did. God heard her prayers, saw her tears, and worked in me.

Tissues, tears, hard times for yourself or others.  Does God care?  Yes!  Does God see our tears?  Yes He does.  Let’s spend time today talking to God about the things that make us need tissues today.  God is listening.  God is waiting to help if we will just ask.
