Step 1 Controlling Pain And Sadness (2)

Thursday November 21, 2013

What kinds of circumstances tempt me with thoughts such as, “I can’t handle this.  This is too much.  I just can’t do this anymore”?  How can I face and work with pain and sorrow in a way that will help me find new life?

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.  1 Peter 5:7 NLT

And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?  Luke 12:28 NLT

Our painful helpless condition is not a surprise to God.  He knows that we fall short when we try to do things on our own and He stands ready to help us chart a new course and find a new life. God reveals to us that there are two powers active in our world, the devil who is seeking to bring us harm and God who desires to bring us new life.

Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10 NIV)

We are not left dangling helplessly between the two powers.  Jesus came to earth as a human being to break the power of our bondage to sin.

The Bible says, Since the children are made of flesh and blood, it’s logical that the Savior took on flesh and blood in order to rescue them by his death. By embracing death, taking it into himself, he destroyed the Devil’s hold on death and freed all who cower through life, scared to death of death. (Hebrews 2:14-15 MSG)

Jesus died for our sins.  He rose from the dead and destroyed Satan’s power to harm and destroy us.  While it is true that God has done what is necessary for us to find the help we need, we don’t just stand passively on neutral ground and find ourselves rescued by God.  We have choices to make and action to take.  We must admit that we are powerless against the forces of evil on our own and decide to do something about it. We need to invite Jesus into our hearts and ask Him to guide us in all our ways.  God will fill us with the power of His Holy Spirit and give us victory over the dark powers working against us.  We must resolve that we will be guided by God in good times and in trying times.  We must stand firm on God’s word regardless of our feelings.  Troubles will never be far from us but with God’s help, we can face and overcome every one of them and find the fullness of life that God is offering us today.
