Extreme Makeover (2)

Tuesday December 3, 2013

In the TV program “EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER” a team of designers and builders made it their project to provide a well-deserving family with a brand new home, replacing their current one that was run down and inadequate for the needs of the family.

Before the work began, the designers sat down with each family member to ask them what their hobbies were and what they enjoyed.  Then, the whole decoration concept for the room was built according to that person’s individual interests.  It was personal.  It was beautiful.  It was functional to the specific needs of each child of the family whether they were handicapped or otherwise.

God knows us.  God knows what we like, what we need, what will give us joy.

To all who mourn... [God] will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair.  In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.  Isaiah 61:3-4a NLT

He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! Psalm 103:5

When we welcome Jesus to come into our lives He helps us tear down and overcome what is broken.  He then replaces the brokenness with something beautiful, something that is so totally different from all our expectations that it leaves us in awe.  Each day we can enjoy the wonderful new life that God has given us.

Every new house needs a strong foundation and when they built the new houses on the TV show they made the foundation suitable to the new house.   They also took a lot of time to decorate the house with beautiful paint, beautiful furniture, up-to-date appliances in the kitchen, and even really nice pictures on the walls.  They wanted to make the house beautiful.  That is God’s desire for us too.  He will give us a new heart and guide every part of our lives so that we will be beautiful inside and out.

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.  Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.              Colossians 3:12-14 NLT

We don’t want a broken down life that is no good to us or anyone else.  We want a life that is new and fresh, filled with joy and kindness.   God wants to give that to us today, if we will receive it.

Him.
