A VOICE TO FOLLOW IN 2014

Political leaders have come and gone.  Sometimes we like those we've elected to power and other times we wonder what happened to all the promises we were given on the campaign trail.  Political leaders who started out years ago being "for the people" are shown years later to be abusing power and the privilege of their office.  We see news of the scandal on the television and in the newspapers almost daily.

Whose voice are we to follow?  How can we find a leader who can show us a way and take us forward as individuals and as a society?

When the Sabbath day came, Jesus went into the synagogue. There he began to teach.  The people were amazed at his teaching. He taught them like one who had authority. He did not talk like the teachers of the law.  Just then a man in their synagogue cried out. He was controlled by an evil spirit. He said, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!” “Be quiet!” said Jesus firmly. “Come out of him!”  The evil spirit shook the man wildly. Then it came out of him with a scream.  All the people were amazed. So they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching! And with so much authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits, and they obey him.”  News about Jesus spread quickly all over Galilee.  (Mark 1:21-28 NIRV)

Jesus Christ is the only man with wisdom and authority, to not only show us a way forward, but to also make that way available for you and me.  Historically, on this and many other occasions, great crowds of people were amazed at the authority of Jesus Christ as He taught.  His words were like no other teachings.  The power and wisdom He showed were unique for His time and through all of history.  Great leaders, teachers, and theologians, have quoted Jesus, studied and talked about His teachings for centuries.  His words have impacted history like the words of no one else.  Values and moral structures in societies were founded on His teachings.

The Bible tells us clearly that Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.  Want a dependable voice directing you in a safe and steady path this year?  Get to know the teaching of Jesus Christ and follow His ways.
