ADDICTION OR GRACE (3)

God wants to honour us and fill us with His Spirit.   He offers us a relationship of love and intimacy that is deeply satisfying and will bring joy into our lives. We may, by our own will, choose another painful path that leads into relapse but God’s offer remains constant.  As far down as we fall, God will offer us grace to return to Him, but why put ourselves through this unnecessary suffering?  Today God invites us to the satisfaction of a meaningful, joyful, and purposeful life.  Are we willing to accept the invitation?

Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? … But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires ... So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. … Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. (James 4:4-11 NLT)

To dwell on the things of this world, rather than on the things of God, will draw us back into a lonely, destructive, addictive lifestyle. The above scripture invites us to come close to God and He will come close to us. Drawing close to God is our first step.  Will you allow yourself to be loved by God, washed in the blood of Jesus, lifted out of the pit of a destructive lifestyle and honoured by the living God?  Instead of engaging in harmful addictive behaviour, will you turn to God and let Him help you stand firm.

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ.   (Philippians 3:8-9 NLT)
