Behaving with wisdom

An owl makes us think of wisdom.  We might think a person who reads a lot of books or has a few college degrees must have a lot of wisdom. We certainly want any judge we stand in front of to be wise.

Corrie Ten Boom, a Dutch woman who lived during the Second World War was a wise woman.   In whatever situations she was in, Corrie wanted to live for God and do God’s will.  She and her family helped Jewish people escape from the Nazis.  They hid them in their house and helped many get to freedom. She and her sister were caught and ended up in a concentration camp where they endured much suffering.  Years later after Corrie was released she bumped into one of the prison guards who had caused suffering to her and her sister.  She demonstrated the great wisdom she had by offering forgiveness as God's word taught her to do.

For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.  He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.    (Proverbs 2:6-10 NLT)

Many of us will not face the extreme challenges that Corrie Ten Boom had in the concentration camp. However, everyday life will bring challenges where we need God’s guidance in order to live wisely. We need help for big and small decisions.  God offers to live within us and guide us on a safe path.  When we trust Jesus to be our Saviour, He fills us with His Holy Spirit.  God’s Spirit empowers and guides us as we seek to grow in grace and the knowledge of Jesus.

Let’s be wise people today.  Let’s get wisdom by reading God’s word, listening for God’s voice in our hearts, receiving God’s directions, walking in God’s truth, and enjoying the wonderful life God has planned for us.
