GOODNESS OF GOD

People often talk about the goodness of God and how He desires to give abundantly to His people.  On a daily basis, how many of us look around to see how God is providing goodness in our lives and thank Him for His provision? On the other hand, how many of us choose to look around and decide what is missing in our lives and blame God for our perceived lack?

There are so many things we can be grateful for if we choose to look for them.  If we can see out of our eyes, do we thank him for that?  If our ears can hear, do we thank Him for that?  If we can walk without aid to do so, do we thank Him that we can move freely from place to place?  Some people are less fortunate so cannot see or hear or walk so what can they thank God for?  Maybe they can thank God for the fact they have been taught how to communicate with others or have a wheelchair or have a friend who is willing to push them around.  If we are living and breathing we have something to thank God for.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.  Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  (Psalm 23:5-6 NIV)

When we look to God for life, what a comfort it is to know that His goodness surrounds us each day and that He is faithful to keep His promises.  What would life be like for us if God withdrew His goodness?  What if God was not faithful?  We have God’s promise for the continuance of our environment on earth as long as it remains.  God has promised:  “As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”  (Genesis 8:22 NIV)

What if each person was to lift up their head and see God’s creation in a little child; in the beauty of trees and flowers and plants; in the unique qualities of fish, birds and animals?  Today, why not look for something which you personally can thank God for?  God is the creator of all things and His divine character is shown in His goodness and love towards mankind.  He made you and cares for you.  He has also given you the ability to know Him.

For the truth about God is known to them instinctively; God has put this knowledge in their hearts.  Since earliest times men have seen the earth and sky and all God made, and have known of his existence and great eternal power. So they will have no excuse when they stand before God at Judgment Day. (Genesis 1:19-20 TLB)

Why not seek God today and thank Him for His goodness in giving life to you and desiring that you choose to live it abundantly?
