June 12, 2014 Relationship With God
Thursday June 12, 2014

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. (John 1:18 NIV)
Regrettably, many people who come to God miss the whole point of relationship with God. They think they can live any way they want as long as they go to church, read the Bible, pray on occasion and call Jesus “Lord.” They believe these activities put them in right standing with God. They are mistaken. We can’t have both sin and God in our lives. Our God is a Holy God and will not accompany us in the presence of sin. God wants us to make a clean break from the sinful practices of this world and to forgive one another as He has forgiven us. We are to love and care for one another as God loves and cares for us.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:31-32 NLT)
Too many times we choose to do what we feel like doing. This is not how we behave if we desire a relationship with God. We are to surrender all that we are to our faithful God. We are to pay attention to His word and then choose to do what God shows us to do whether we feel like doing it or not. If we are surrendered to God, we will be faithful to Him because we are committed to the loving relationship we share.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. (1 Peter 3:12 NIV)
When a person gets to know God they love Him and keep His commandments. A conscious choice to follow God’s ways produces change in our lives. It may not be an instant change but as we seek God and choose for Him we will be complete in Him, and He in us. Our relationship will grow and flourish and we will bring forth much fruit.

On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them. (John 14:20-21 NIV)
God is faithful! Our relationship with Him is secure; He will never leave or forsake us.
