God's Plan

Thursday August 7, 2014

From the beginning of time God had a plan and, at just the right time, all events occurred according to that plan.

The prophets of the Old Testament wrote about God’s plan even though they did not fully understand what they were writing.   They were writing as the Holy Spirit revealed God’s plan to them.  God, in His wisdom, wanted people to be prepared for the events that were in His plan.

Wise men from the east who interpreted the scriptures came looking for a king at the time Jesus was born.  They were fully convinced by the prophets that a special event was to take place at this time and came looking in the place where it was prophesied to happen.  The wise men undertook a long journey to find the prophesied king bringing gifts suitable for the occasion, gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The Bible tells us, Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20-21 NIV)

At the beginning of His ministry Jesus attended a wedding in Cana of Galilee. His Mother Mary asked Him to do something about the wine which was running out.  Jesus told her, “My hour has not yet come”.  (John 2:4 NIV)  Jesus at another time said “my time has not yet fully come”. (John 7:8 NIV)

Prior to His being crucified Jesus began to prepare His disciples for what God had planned for Him. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.  I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.  (John 14:29-31 NIV)

God’s plan of redemption for mankind was achieved at the time He planned it through the death and resurrection of Jesus.  There were many witnesses who saw the fulfillment of prophesies of the Old Testament concerning Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

The Bible tells us: All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:  that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 4:18-20 NIV)

The apostle Peter was one of those who witnessed and wrote concerning Jesus.  Here’s what he said:   For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.  He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”  We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.  We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.  (2 Peter 1:16-19 NIV)

Today, let’s proclaim the faithfulness of God’s plan for us through Jesus.  Let’s tell others the Good News!
