Humility Growing In Truth
Tuesday October 7, 2014

Humility in our relationship with God, ourselves, and others, is a willingness to know truth and to be open to accept truth we were not previously aware of, and then to act on what we have learned.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. (James 4:10 NLT)
We often think about this when we are becoming aware of our character defects and longing to grow up and mature into becoming the person God created us to be. Humility helps us, in a healthy way, to simply be aware of what is, or what is not, out of character and allow forgiveness to flow from our own healing into our relationships.

Humility spends productive time caring about negative effects of our shortcomings. How do we do that? When we recognize we've made a mistake, we acknowledge it, ask for forgiveness, and move on. We work with God to receive healing, to restore our relationships in a healthy way. We don't waste time beating ourselves up with negative self-talk about the mistakes made and sins committed.
Jesus used the example of a little child to help us learn how to deal with mistakes. Children know when they've done wrong. They get correction from their care giver, receive any consequences that are helpful, and then move on. In a flash they are off to play and enjoy their lives, play with their friends, discover new things, and learn about life around them.

God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:5, 18:4 NLT)
Are we willing to live simply, live in the care of God, receive instruction and even correction from God, and move on to greater things in life? A humble life grows in truth and moves on. Am I willing to do that today?
