Happy New Year Every Day

Friday January 2, 2015

Today, as we recover from the festivities of saying good-bye to the old year and embrace the New Year, let us reflect on what we would like to achieve in the coming year.  How can we do as Jesus commanded and better love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul and, with all our strength, and love our neighbour as ourselves.  God loved us so much that He sent His son Jesus into the world to be our saviour.  When we understand this great love we can ask God to show us how to love as He loves.

We love because he first loved us.  (1 John 4:19 NIV)

We are not the Saviour of the world but we can love others as God loves us.  Love covers a multitude of sins and goes beyond mere words.  Sometimes it is demonstrated in silence, or in an understanding touch, as one comes alongside another who has strayed from the recovery path.  Love doesn’t accuse but encourages the person to get back on the road and continue the journey. As they move in that direction, our Loving God will show them what needs changing and how to go about it.

Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head.  I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hillFear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’  (Psalms 3:2-4; Isaiah 41:10 NKJV)

Jesus commissioned us to be His witnesses and to share the good news of salvation with others.  As we share about our new life in Christ, we need to acknowledge God’s direction and the valuable input of others who have encouraged us along our path.  Personally, we need to seek wisdom and understanding from the God who loves us.  We also need to seek feedback from those who have helped us, and continue to help us, on our journey forward.  Sharing our message in a gentle and humble way will invite others to join us in the joy of living life to the full in this New Year.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.  (John 10:10 NIV)

For most people this is a time of putting into effect New Year’s resolutions with hope for a better life.  Putting our hand into the hand of God as we walk in His ways is more secure than any known path that we may choose to tread and will truly bring a “Happy New Year” for each of us.
