Conversation That Changes Me

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5 NIV)

As Christians we believe prayer is a relationship with our Heavenly Father.  God created us for to live in loving relationship with Him.  If you love someone, you want to spend time with them.  If you love God, you want to spend time with Him. The time we spend in God’s presence talking with Him is what we call prayer.  God is pleased when we talk with Him, both expressing our appreciation for His friendship and asking for His help and guidance.

God wants us to reflect all His wonderful characteristics that will give life and hope to the world around us.  He wants us to work together with Him to help others who are suffering and in need of His healing touch.  Prayer is God’s way of helping us co-operate together to get the job done.  As we pray and seek His face we will discover His heart for those around us.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV)

Prayer is not designed to change God.  It is designed to change us.  Prayer is not calling on God to bless our activities.  Rather, prayer brings us close to God and shows us His will.  Prayer helps us understand life in a new way and prepares us to obey God’s plan for us at this time and in this place.  Prayer reminds us that God is the creator and we are the created.  When we come to God in prayer we are reminded that there is more to life than our own experience and our own perspective.  God truly is sovereign over all!
