Having A Chat With God

Friday February 20, 2015

Until we realize how much God loves us and cares about the details of our lives, we won’t want to pray to him.  Until we sincerely believe that he has completely forgiven us, we will be ashamed to face him.

Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. You who answer prayer, to you all people will come. When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions.  (Psalm 65:1-3 NIV)

Our lives matter to God. The details of each day are important to him.  He wants to give us direction.  He wants to support us and protect us.  God enjoys spending time with us and loves it when we spend time with him.  He enjoys it when we “chat it up” with him.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31 NIV)

God has created us to live in love and to be agents of love in our world.  God invites us to walk in the new life we have through the death and resurrection of Jesus.  God’s will for us is that we tell others of His great love for them so that others may experience this new life and the satisfaction it brings.  God desires for each of us to make the world a better place as we experience and share his kindness with those around us.  He will give us wisdom and discernment in the ways we are to do that.

Jesus promised: when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.  (John 16:13 NIV)

What might it look like to have a chat with God today?

·         Find a place where you can be undisturbed and free from distractions.
·         Tell God your thoughts and feelings.
·         Share your day with God as you would with a friend.  What was your experience of this day?
·         Review your day with God.  What went wrong?  What went right?  Ask for forgiveness and make amends to him as needed.  Ask for healing for any pain that has come up.
·         Listen carefully.  God has messages for you, just as you have messages for him.
·         Ask God to give you knowledge of his will for you and the power to carry it out.
