Overcoming A Victim Mentality (5)
Friday February 6, 2015

People living with a victim mentality often believe that it is impossible to get well. Jesus offers us abundant life as ones who overcome in the power of God’s love. In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37 NIV)

God asks us today, “Do you want to get well?”
Implicit in this invitation are two promises:
1) I know about your trouble but my love in you can overcome. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (John 16:33 NIV)
2) If you will trust me with your life I can make something good out of everything that has happened: And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:28 NLT)

What’s my part in overcoming a victim mentality?
1) I need to make a decision that, with God’s help, I can and will face my pattern of victimization thinking and behaving.
2) Held safe in God’s powerful protection I will take responsibility for dealing with the root issues and for the process of change.
3) I will quit blaming others for not protecting me or meeting my needs.
4) I will trust God to heal me and leave those who caused me harm in His hands.
5) I will work with God to resolve my grief, anger, resentment, and roots of bitterness.
6) I will renew my mind and describe myself as God sees me: I am an overcomer, not a victim.
7) I will do everything I can today to build healthy relationships, set healthy boundaries, and trust God to make me adequate
for every task.

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. (Philippians 2:13, 4:13 NLT)
Today, am I willing to welcome God’s overcoming love to change me from living as a victim to living as an overcomer?
