Equipped For Growth (1)
Monday July 20, 2015

For the eyes of the Lord search back and forth across the whole earth, looking for people whose hearts are perfect toward him, so that he can show his great power in helping them. (2 Chronicles 16:9 TLB)
Life in addiction is often described as a slow death. Therefore, to enjoy a healthy and satisfying life in recovery we have to recognize that we need to grow in the many areas of our being which have been compromised. The primary places to start equipping ourselves for growth is in our thoughts and in the attitude of our heart.

What are some choices we can make that will support growth? 1. We need to determine in our minds that we will put off our old self and our former way of life. 2. By a conscious choice of our will we need to abandon and be healed from those things that keep us in bondage to our addiction. 3. We need to give up co-dependent relationships that supported a physical or emotional need or longing. 4. We need to surrender our will to God and seek His help to put on our new self. 5. We need to determine that we will walk in God’s way, doing those things which will help us grow in righteousness and holiness. 6. We need to get to know our Heavenly Father so that we will trust Him.

You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:20-24 NIV)
Have we made a conscious choice to equip ourselves for our new life with God in recovery? If not, perhaps this is the day to intentionally commit our lives to God and to seek Him first in all our ways.
