Prayer Relapse Prevention Tool (1)

How does communication with God change lives for people in recovery? How does prayer work as a relapse prevention tool in our lives? In every area of recovery we live this new life by surrendering to God’s ways and seeking wisdom from faithful people around us. We ought always to pray to God and seek direction from others who have walked the same path we are now travelling and have progressed along the way.
The Bible is full of examples of how faithful people prayed for others. One such example is Paul who prayed: “Ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” (Ephesians 1:15-19 NIV)

Paul was a man who made a 180 degree turnaround in life from a violent and destructive man, to one who daily followed God's plan and direction for His life. Paul prayed without ceasing and relied on God to meet all His needs. Paul also encouraged others to pray to his God whom he knew had incomparably great power to also meet their needs.

People, who make prayer a daily habit in the recovery process, begin to recognize God's involvement in their circumstances and relationships. The experience, strength and hope of these prayerful individuals is in the knowledge that God guides, supports, and protects them in all the issues of life. Being in relationship with God brings peace and stability into our lives and maintains growth in recovery that is steady and significant.
