Am I Spiritually Alive? (3)

Wednesday September 2, 2015

We don't see the wind but we know it exists because we see its effects.  We don't see God coming to live in a person's spirit but we can see the changes which confirm that new life has come.  Are we alive spiritually?  How will we know?

The first question to ask ourselves is, "Have I invited God to come into my life?"  God assures us that when we ask, He comes to live in us.  For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.  “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”  (Luke 11:10-13 NLT)

How do we go about inviting God into our lives?  We simply come to Him and express the desire of our hearts.  We ask God's forgiveness for ignoring Him and for following our own self-centered ways which got us into a mess.  We thank Him for giving us His beloved son Jesus to die on the cross, in our place, for our rebellion.  We ask God to come and live in us and make us alive by His Holy Spirit.  As we follow God’s principles and walk in His ways the Holy Spirit will guide us in all we do and say and our lives will be transformed.   Then we will be able to see what God’s will is for our lives, His good, pleasing and perfect will.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.  (Romans 6:23 NLT)

Jesus promised us: My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.  (John 10:10 NLT)

When God the Holy Spirit comes to live in us, we need to surrender our own will to Him and follow His principles for living.  As we choose to follow Him, we will experience peace and joy regardless of our circumstances. Each day we will find ourselves on the winning side of many internal battles because, “The Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world” (1 John 4:4 NLT)
