Conscious Contact With God (2)

Tuesday September 29, 2015

In the beginning God created us to live in conscious contact with Him.  His desire is for us to know Him and His unfailing love for each of us.

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! (Psalm 139:17-18 NLT)

Being aware of who we are and our place in life is often known as “self-perception.”  As children, we develop self-perception by observing how those charged with our care see us and treat us.  If we have grown up in a dysfunctional family, damaging words or actions by our care givers may have confused our ability to see ourselves as we truly are in God’s eyes. The fact that God’s word says He created us with a plan and purpose for our lives is truly amazing and hard for us to believe. The place the Bible tells us we hold in His thoughts on a continual basis is absolutely inconceivable.  Why do we even matter to God would be our question to Him.

O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!  Your glory is higher than the heavens.  When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority. (Psalm 8:1, 3-6 NLT)

The God who created the universe actually delights in us.  He really cares about each individual person and the things that matter to each of us.  Is our own self-perception based on our conscious awareness of the degree in which God esteems us?  Do we live in a way that honours God as our Heavenly Father?  Are we motivated in all our actions to bring joy and delight to God’s heart and do whatever we know pleases Him?  Is our relationship with God one of consciously loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength?  If we are not living in a constant loving relationship with our Heavenly Father, then we are settling for a life that is less than we were created for.

So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion.  For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.  (Isaiah 30:18 NLT)
