Conscious Contact With God (5)

The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?  The one thing I ask of the Lord—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.  (Psalm 27:1, 4-5 NLT)

The purpose of prayer and meditation is to help us learn how to hear from God so we can correctly interpret the events going on in our lives and in the world around us.  When we invite God into our lives He begins to work immediately to help us change.  As we pay attention to Him, He teaches us how to live.  As we act on what God teaches us, we become more and more conscious of how well His ways work in all our relationships.  God has good plans for our day to day living and He’s more than willing to reveal them to us.  God also makes promises of a life that is better than what we even know how to ask Him for.  This is the purpose of prayer and meditation as well – to get to know the good things God has planned for our lives and then to shape our lives around His promises and plans.

Jesus said:  But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.  And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. (John 15:7, Jeremiah 33:3, James 1:5-6, 1 John 5:14-15 NLT)

Using prayer and meditation as tools we move from vague hope, to trust and experiencing the love of God in the deepest areas of our beings.  We are not just learning truths about God but are sensing His very presence in our lives. This conscious contact with God is the most blessed way to face each day.
