He (God) sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit. (Romans 8:3b-4 NLT)
Powerlessness comes when we choose to be our own god and are therefore disconnected from the ultimate source of power, the Living God. We disregarded the power of God to help us, either by choice or by not having knowledge of Him. We neither desired nor asked for His guidance. We didn’t consider His ways and did nothing to learn from Him.

In spite of our arrogance and contempt for God, the truth is, God is sovereign over all things, and He knows us, loves us, and cares about us. Because of His great love for us God sent Jesus to earth to die for us. All power in heaven and earth has been given to Jesus and He is the sustainer of all things. God invites us to look at life from this perspective and to acknowledge Jesus’ all-encompassing power to change us and set us free from sin’s control over us.
Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19 NIV)

In our current state we wonder if God could possibly value us as a person and be willing to give us a chance at life. However, God’s ways and thoughts are different from ours. His unfailing love for us caused Him to send Jesus to provide forgiveness for our sin. When we accept this pardon for our wrongs, we are no longer under condemnation but are set free.
Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the Lord. So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help. (Psalm 32:10; Isaiah 30:18 NLT)
Today, let’s trust God with our future and permit Him to show us His love and compassion as we allow Him to help us through this period of powerlessness.
