Thinking And Emotions (4)

Thursday October 8, 2015

The Bible tells us that our thoughts reveal our true person.  It’s important therefore, to pay attention to what we are filling our minds with.  Absolutely nothing is hidden from God and His word is the tool that reveals to us whether our intimate thoughts and desires are good or evil.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. (Hebrews 4:12-13 NLT)

It is important to fill our minds with the knowledge of God and His Word. We need to see life from His perspective and respond accordingly.  At times, the weather, the amount of sleep we get, or the food we eat, will have subtle and unpredictable effects on how we feel.  However, we need to exercise control over our thoughts because our thoughts impact our feelings and our response to situations. Sometimes we feel that the temptation that presents itself is too strong and there’s no way out for us except to give in to it.  God tells us that this is not so.

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.  (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT)

Satan flees when we resist him by invoking the power of the Word of God. When Jesus was tempted, He used the truth of the Word of God to defeat the tempter.  When we face temptation we also can draw strength from the truth of the Word of God by declaring scriptures such as: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. (Philippians 4:13 NKJV; 2 Timothy 1:7 NIV)

Jesus knows our weaknesses and applauds us when we overcome temptation.  As we choose to walk in the truth of His Word, He will open doors for us that no one can close.

I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me. (Revelation 3:8 NLT)

Today, let’s start thinking right by reading and choosing to obey the Word of God.
