Twelve Steps Of A.a. Step Two Power Greater Than Ourselves (2)
Thursday October 29, 2015

As we come into recovery programs we listen to and are supported by the experience, strength, and hope that others share. The Bible is filled with all kinds of stories about the kindness of Jesus towards those He encountered. Hope for the same kindness and restoration of our life can be ours if we will turn to Him.

There was a man who came to Jesus and asked him to help his young son who was afflicted with a demon. He said to Jesus, “Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:22b-24 NLT)

When we face powerlessness over our addictions and the unmanageability of our lives, we can start by asking God to help us have more faith just like this man did. Jesus set the boy free from the spirits that were tormenting him. He’s awaits an invitation in order to do the same for us.
The same Power that created the universe is available to create new life in the midst of our shattered hopes. True recovery and eternal life are ours when we believe what God says, renounce our rebellion in doing things our way, and receive the one whom God sent to help us. The true light of the world became a human being and is known to us as Jesus Christ.

Through Jesus we can know what God is like and enjoy a relationship with him today. Jesus Christ came to defeat the power of sin and to give us new life. When we trust in Him we begin to learn the truth about life. This is a perfect day to “come to believe that a power greater than myself can restore me.”
