Certainty In An Uncertain Future
Wednesday December 30, 2015

Many of us face a new year wondering about the unknown. If we're honest, there's a bit of uncertainty and tension that lies beneath the excitement and anticipation that the New Year brings. What difference does being in relationship with God bring to our confidence in the events of the year ahead?

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:1-5, 10-12 NLT)
The same power that created the universe is available to help us deal with the events of the year ahead. Jesus is the light that exposes and drives away the darkness that tries to manipulate and control our lives. Jesus is also the light that brightens the dark corners of the part of the world we inhabit. When we believe in the finished work of Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. He has power that extinguishes the darkness and brings light into our unknown future. Nothing can withstand the Holy Spirit’s creative power in helping us live out what God has planned for us. God is unfailingly faithful in His love and care for us. What better way is there to enter into the New Year than in the strength of our awesome God?
Today, if we haven’t done so, let’s welcome the Light of the World into our lives by confessing our sins and asking Jesus to forgive us and cleanse us from all that is not right within us. We can then confidently enter into the pending New Year by surrendering our will and our lives over to the care of God whose unfailing love for us never ends.

It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us. (1 Corinthians 1:21-22 NLT)
