Accepted In The Beloved (2)

Tuesday January 5, 2016

Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me. (Psalm 66:20 NLT)

At some point in our lives each of us will experience some form of rejection.  When something negative is repeatedly said about us and we hear it over and over again, we begin to believe what is being said.  Our thoughts dwell on those negative words which influence our self-worth.  We dwell on the opinions of others rather than centering our self-worth on the truth of what God says.  We begin to give more weight to human words than to God’s word.  Our feelings and actions follow what we choose to believe, and our self-image reflects this.

In His kindness, God warns us about the danger of doing this. God says: I have stretched out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, according to their own thoughts.  (Isaiah 65:2 NKJV)

When others judge us and tell us we don’t matter or we are worthless, they are wrong.  The truth is, we are valued by the God who created us, who places great significance on each of our lives, and who invites us to live each day under His care and direction.   God cared so much for each of us that He sent Jesus to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins and for those of the whole world.

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.  (John 3:16 NLT)

Accepting the judgment of others as truth is foolishness because God, in His infinite wisdom sent Jesus into the world to save people, not to judge them.   Why then do we listen to, and accept, the judgment of another against us when Jesus, the only righteous judge, declared that He came not to judge us but to save us?

God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.  (John 3:17 NLT)

God loves us and encourages us to turn to Him and be saved forever from the penalty of sin.  Let’s choose to believe what God says about us.  Let’s stand firm in our identity in Jesus and acknowledge that we are children of God and fully accepted in the beloved.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)
