Accepted In The Beloved (3)

Wednesday January 6, 2016

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.  (Jeremiah 31:3 NIV)

There are three things humans need to feel and proclaim in order to be healthy.  They are: I belong; I have worth; I am adequate and/or competent.  Feelings of rejection tell us the opposite of each one of these.

I BELONG:  God’s sacrifice of His only begotten Son for us and for the world, speaks clearly of how precious and valuable we are to Him.  Belief in the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus for our sins, forever guarantees our acceptance by God.  When we choose to make Jesus the Lord of our lives then God acknowledges us as His children.  But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) God is our Father.  We are His cherished children.  We belong.

I HAVE WORTH:  We have worth because God created and cares for us.  We are precious in His sight.  Regardless of what others may say about us, God’s word proclaims we have worth.  That’s what counts!  Make sure no outsider who now follows God ever has occasion to say, 'God put me in second-class. I don't really belong.' And make sure no physically mutilated person is ever made to think, 'I'm damaged goods. I don't really belong.' (Isaiah 56:3 MSG) We are God’s workmanship and, God is a skilled craftsman.

I AM ADEQUATE/COMPETENT:  In ourselves we are so much more than what others may see.  In order to belong, have worth, and experience competence, we need simply to believe and affirm what God has already declared, My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT)

Believing is a choice.  Growing confident as one who is “accepted in the beloved” is the result of consciously speaking the truth of God’s word to our own soul until our emotions agree.  Today, let’s begin to assert the truth of who God says we are in Christ Jesus.
