Security Vs. Insecurity (5)

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6 NASB)

Based on the truth of God’s word, let’s acknowledge that life without God is uncertain and dangerous but, life with God is filled with peace, hope, and a purposeful future if we will trust in Him.  Many things will come along to distract us from our recovery.   However, determining to follow the ways of the Lord is most important in getting to our desired destination. Following requires clear choices in scheduling time to build a relationship with God, know what He says in the Bible – our handbook for life with God in recovery -- and surrendering our own familiar but useless ways for God’s as yet unfamiliar but trustworthy ways.

My child, pay attention to what I say.  Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them.  Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.  (Proverbs 4:20-22 NLT)

When an eaglet is in the nest it relies fully on the parent eagle to feed it with food to help it grow and fully develop with the necessary wings with which it will fly.  When the time is right the parent eagle then encourages the eaglet to leave the nest and develop its flying ability.  The first flight might just be from the nest to a rock.  On subsequent flights the parent eagle will accompany the eaglet, and with its primary feathers create air currents to lift the young eaglet up.  The parent eagle creates the environment which enables the eaglet to gain strength and soar higher and higher.  The eaglet, as it matures, is then able to do those things it was created to do.

This is what God will do for us as we spend time with Him.  He will provide our needs so that we may grow strong in body, mind and spirit.   He accompanies us and encourages us to take the steps to do those things which He has prepared in advance for us to do.  He will never leave or forsake us and will provide an environment in which we fulfill those things we were created for.

I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you.  I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you.  So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:9-10 NIV)

Today, let’s thank God for the security He has given us and ask Him to continue to strengthen us as we grow one step at a time in this newly recovered life.
