Admitting Our Part In Temptation
Thursday March 17, 2016

God wants us to know that we can overcome temptation. When we draw close to God and ask for His help, He will give us the power and strength to say “no” to the tempter.

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. (James 4:7-8 NLT)
Underlying any temptation is the fear and anxiety that results when we look at our situation using only our own limited viewpoint, and don’t bother to include God in the picture. God sees and knows more than we do. He knows the beginning and the end of all things. With His knowledge and understanding, God has prepared all we need today so we can be at peace in any situation.
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV)
We tend to see life as half empty rather than half full. God is blessing us every day and we need to train our eyes to see those blessings rather than dwelling on things we currently don’t have. God is generous in His giving and will supply all we need to be ready for anything and everything we will face today. That’s His promise and we must rely on that promise when we face temptation. We get worried and frustrated when we pay attention to our feelings, rather than remembering God’s reliable promises. We look far into the future and don’t yet see how things will work out. God has a wonderful future planned for each of us and He will direct us onto the path which will get us there. He will only show us one step at a time, however, so we don’t get overwhelmed.
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17 NIV)
We will experience victory over temptation if we stay close to God and keep life simple by focusing on doing the next right thing.
