He (God) gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. (Isaiah 40:29 NLT)
Some mornings when we wake up we just want to bury our heads in the pillow rather than get up and face the day. We tell ourselves how tired we are and that we lack the strength to cope with what is on our agenda. The thought of dealing with some people may also cause us concern. We feel life would be safer if we just stayed in bed and escaped it all.
This type of thinking does not contribute to our well-being and may actually cause us to become discouraged. If we isolate ourselves from people and events, we will find that loneliness sets in.
The more we avoid others, the more we tell ourselves that no one really cares about us. The devil chimes in with lots of cooperative lies and we start to believe these delusions. As a result, we allow ourselves to be drawn into familiar addictive behaviour.
No matter how far away we have drifted, God knows us, and knows our thoughts. If we call on Him, He will help us. You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. (Psalm 139:1-3 NIV)
On mornings when we feel fearful about the day ahead, we need to challenge our thought pattern and call out to the Lord for help. We need to ask Him to give us the power to get ourselves off the bed and strengthen us to face the day. God knows we feel unable to cope. God is willing to help us if we seek Him. As we bring our requests before Him, His mighty power will strengthen us to do those things that will help us live each day to the full.
In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Psalm 5:3; Isaiah 41:10 NIV)
Today, let’s not yield to our own thoughts. Instead let’s call on God who has all wisdom, strength and power to help us.
