Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this:  Your promise preserves my life. The arrogant mock me unmercifully, but I do not turn from your law. I remember, Lord, your ancient laws, and I find comfort in them. Indignation grips me because of the wicked, who have forsaken your law. Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. In the night, Lord, I remember your name, that I may keep your law. This has been my practice: I obey your precepts.  (Psalm 119:49-56 NIV)

Life isn’t always easy.  Difficult challenges come our way.  Our emotions are touched by suffering through our own circumstances and as we walk with others in daily life.  People do wrong things.  Bullies still bully.  Gang members still shoot each other.  A doctor gives us a difficult diagnosis.  We lose a job just as we were beginning to see our way ahead.  Unjust accusations are conveyed to us or gossiped about behind our backs.  When times are tough where do we find comfort and hope?

The above verses from the Bible direct us to the security for all our needs.  God will always be with us.  His love and care will sustain us.  Even in the night when thoughts are swirling around in our heads and keeping us awake, God is there to remind us that we are not alone, that his promises are faithful, and He will do what He has promised.  God keeps it simple for us.  We don’t have to figure everything out for ourselves or sort out other’s problems.  We simply need to come close to God, rest in His love, and trust in what He says works and obey His commands.  As we do this, He will take care of everything that worries us.  God is still in control even when we’re not.  God knows how to make a way for us, even when we can’t see a way forward.  Our part is to practice obedience to God and He will give us rest and comfort in the midst of all our challenges.

Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)
