Life with God in recovery begins by admitting that on our own life is unmanageable and that we need a power greater than ourselves to restore us to sanity. As we turn our will and our life over to God’s care, we will find a new and satisfying way of life.
You are my portion, Lord; I have promised to obey your words. I have sought your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes. I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands. Though the wicked bind me with ropes, I will not forget your law. At midnight I rise to give you thanks for your righteous laws. I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts. The earth is filled with your love, Lord; teach me your decrees. (Psalm 119:57-64 NIV)

Our time in addiction holds many clear examples of living powerless while wicked powers bound us with ropes. We felt helpless to free ourselves from obsessive thoughts and destructive actions. We wanted to change our ways, but found ourselves returning again and again to habits and places that were dark and threatening.
Thank God for His love and continuous invitation to turn our steps towards His ways. As we follow His principles and decrees, we will be able to test and approve God’s will for our lives, His good, pleasing and perfect will. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ has changed everything for us. Through Jesus, God’s mighty power gives us everything we need to live successfully and escape the corruption of our own addictive desires.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him … he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. (2 Peter 1:3-4 NLT)
Today is one more day to give thanks and choose to live according to God’s will. As we elect to do so, we will find that His way is not only successful, but that it is also filled with lavish gifts of love, joy and peace for us.
