May 15, 2016 Save Me, For I Am Yours

Sunday May 15, 2016

Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts. The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes. To all perfection I see a limit, but your commands are boundless.  (Psalm 119:89-96 NIV)

Our Heavenly Father is delighted to walk with us in our new life with Him in recovery.  That fact alone enrages the evil one who continually works against us, and each day he is just waiting and looking for ways to destroy us.  On our own, we're no match for Satan or other forces of evil.  However, when we turn our will and our life over to the care of God, we  enter into a relationship with the God who has all power, and who can make us secure even when we are feeling vulnerable.

We have nothing to steady us in our own strength.  We affirmed that in Step One when we acknowledged the unmanageable circumstances that our addictive and destructive lifestyle brought us.  In Step 2 we were introduced to God, our creator, who not only made us, but also sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross so our lives could be preserved during our challenging times in recovery and even beyond that, with our God forever in heaven.

Our only claim to this amazing security in Christ is that we belong to God and that's the issue for us to consider today.  Have we come into a living relationship with God by putting our trust in Jesus Christ and receiving forgiveness for the many ways we disobeyed God's laws and lived independently in our self-will?  We aren't perfect, but as we desire to obey God we will experience His faithful unfailing love.

Today, if we haven't asked God to save us, now would be the time to do so.  If we have, let's rely on God's protection and trust and enjoy His limitless love.
