My soul faints with longing for your salvation, but I have put my hope in your word. My eyes fail, looking for your promise; I say, “When will you comfort me?” Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke, I do not forget your decrees. How long must your servant wait? When will you punish my persecutors? The arrogant dig pits to trap me, contrary to your law. All your commands are trustworthy; help me, for I am being persecuted without cause. They almost wiped me from the earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts. In your unfailing love preserve my life, that I may obey the statutes of your mouth. (Psalm 119:81-88 NIV)

There are seasons in recovery that are filled with trouble. Things don't seem to be working out the way we thought they would. In recent days, people we considered friends haven't behaved all that friendly towards us. Problems surround us and our souls are flooded with discouragement. We long for situations to change and the promises of recovery to be ours in this day. However, in significant ways we feel like we are still watching and waiting. What are we to do? Where are we to find comfort and help?

God wants to encourage and comfort us today. God's love is unfailing. God's guidance is trustworthy even though we can't see how things will turn out. We can look to God right now, in this very moment, and with all the longing in our hearts cry out for help and hope. God will give us the strength to persevere. Often new thoughts and solutions will fill our minds to make this day a better experience for us, and most of all, we will be protected from the harm we would cause ourselves if we relapsed into our former destructive lifestyle.
These are the days to walk the talk and begin to see God's help and support more fully than we have previously. All we have to do is hang on and trust. God will meet us in our time of need. God will take us forward. With God’s help we will find solutions.
