Sunday Psalm Surprising Wisdom

Sunday May 22, 2016

Oh, how I love your instructions!  I think about them all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide. Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws. I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments. I have refused to walk on any evil path, so that I may remain obedient to your word. I haven’t turned away from your regulations, for you have taught me well. How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey. Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life.  (Psalm 119:97-104 NLT)

Are we ever amazed that after all the heartbreak and wandering in addiction we could be so changed by God that we now passionately love God and His laws?  That's certainly a testimony of God's amazing transforming grace at work in our hearts.

Love from God has dramatically changed us and now love for God is becoming our way of living.  We're not serving God out of fear but responding to His great kindness and unlimited forgiveness.  The light of God's truth is exposing the lies and deception of the evil one.  Now we are sometimes even surprised by the wisdom that comes to our own minds and out of our own mouths as God works in us and through us.

As we look back on the way we used to live and see others around us still living in the deception of addiction, we wonder how we could have been so blind.  The sweetness of life with God has been a healing life lesson over and over again.  As we’ve consistently walked with God, He has taught us well.  We’ve even learned to hate false ways of life and to identify the goodness of God so clearly that others are amazed at what we know and how we now live.

Heavenly Father, we love your laws.  They make us wiser than we ever thought we could be and they have given us a life that is sweeter than we could ever have imagined.  How can we ever thank you enough?   Amen
